Bible Reading plan
Reading the bible can be a task especially for beginners. It can be hard to understand and sometimes you may not really know where to start. That is why it is easier to have a bible reading plan in place to help guide you with reading the word of God. Reading our bible daily is very essential to our Christian walk. It is where we build our faith, develop a relationship with God, and understand how we are suppose to live as Christians. For everything that we face in life there is a answer for it in the word of God. It where we get to know who God is and learn how to live out our christian walk. It is very important that we spend that time in the word of God . Over the years I have learned a few things that I want to share with you today that has helped me be successful in making it a daily habit to read the word. These are four keys that will help you make reading the bible a joy and a success to do.4 Keys to reading the bible.
1.) Choose a time of the day.
The first thing you should do is choose a time for each day to read your bible and make it a daily habit. Routine is a important key to reading your word, it is the only way that the word would be effective in your life. The bible tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God Romans 10:17 .This means to hear the word over and over again so that it could take root. This is why reading everyday is important.
Think about what time of the day would be best for you to read and make it a daily habit. Make sure it is a time where you can be free of distractions and focused. I would suggest to anybody to start off your day with spending time in the word, because we don't know what we will encounter each day but when you've already read your word and filled up on God it makes it easier for you to handle situations. Make sure to make the necessary sacrifices you have to make to make sure that God your first priority.
2. Come up with a bible reading plan
This is a plan on what you will read each day. Now this may look different to everyone depending on the situation and season that you are in. If you are a beginner I would suggest that you read the new testament first starting with the four gospels and then work your way to the old testament. The four gospels is the ministry of Christ and is an example of how we are to live our life today; However we could still learn things from the old testament as well, that's why its important to read both.
-The second bible reading plan would be to study scriptures that only pertains to your current situation. For example if you are dealing with sickness, you could use google to find scriptures on healing and read those scriptures each day to help you. Write them down and meditate on them. If you feel like God is speaking to you on a certain subject only study that. The goal is to focus on scripture that help you overcome your situation. In Matthew 4:1-11 when Jesus was being tempted He focused on scripture that pertain to the situation and he was able to overcome.
-The third way would be is to come up with a plan to learn scripture. Write down one scripture a week to remember and then Recite it everyday until you have it memorized.
3.) Journal/highlight
Journaling is a very helpful tool when reading your bible. I encourage you to write down the things that may stick out to you. Write down the scripture and whatever the holy spirit is speaking to you about that scripture that you are reading. You can also use highlighter method. The highlighter method is a color code system that you can use to highlight different scripture. For example, all the scripture on God's love can be highlighted in purple, all scriptures on fear can be highlighted in red and so on and so forth. The goal is to have a color code for the scripture so it can be easy to access at the time of need. The Journaling and highlight system helps you to retain the information better and allows you to have something that you can always refer back too.
4.) Prayer.
The most important part of reading your word is prayer. There are going to be things that you may not understand in reading the word. Their culture in the bible was different back then, then it is today and some of the terms and languages in the bible has a different meaning than today. Do not get discouraged. Scripture tells us in John 14:26 that the Holy spirit will teach us all things. Our job is to pray, seek, and rely on the holy spirit to help us understand and reveal to us the truth of Gods word.
In addition to this I encourage you to purchase an concord from your local Christian bookstore, this will give you the background and culture for biblical days so that you can get understand.
